Today's jaunt started early as we are off to see "A Week with Marilyn" tonight so cannot fit the run in after work. Having said that I do tend to do as much of my running before work as I can. Everything tends to be taken over once I get back from work and there tends to be a lot of excuses not to strap on the trainers.
The test this morning in the pitch dark at 6.15am was to try and remember where the fallen trees were in the park and the canal toe path. With my trusty head torch I thought this would be no problem. How wrong could I have been as I failed to see both trees and ended up hacking my way through them both. I have now discovered that the head torch only gives light for about 5 feet in front of me. Bloody useless! This mornings podcast was all about coffee from those two Americans fronting How Stuff Works - http://www.howstuffworks.com/. Didn't know that Americans call coffee a "cuppa Joe" which comes from the second world war and the American GIs love of the arribica bean brew. Certainly needed a hot brew after completing my 6 miles. Supposed to be a 7.30 pace but failed miserably to keep it anywhere near this finishing at 7.58 pace. I really should not be expecting too much at this early stage and I am sure that the pace will pick up as the weeks go on.
Here are the numbers - 6 miles - 47.51 mins - 7.58 pace - 83 cadence - 155 avg hr
