After not having enough time to do my long run on Sunday I am left with the dilema of trying to fit the 15 miler in this week whilst still maintaining the overal schedule. Every book and podcast, King George and RP McMurphy will tell you that you have to let it go and to try and fit in missed run is madness. Welcome to the nuthouse.
Up at 5.00am - who does that? Well, no one as there was not a soul out on the toe path this morning. It was absolutely freezing. The canal had frozen over and the water on the toe path had become crunchy. It didn't deter the swans however who were fast asleep on the canal. They must have some insulation. After a couple of miles I lost all feeling in my hands. Started off at a sedate 8.28 and quickly found my rythmn knocking out 8 minute miles with regularity. The HR was hovering around 140bpm which I was quite pleased with. I will need to check how that rates with other 8 minute mile efforts. At the turn just after Clydebank Shopping Centre the wind picked up and on the way back I did feel that my perceived exertion was higher than on the way out. Kept the 8 minute pace finishing in just a shade over 2 hours.
It is beginning to catch up on me now. Shoulders and arms are beginning to ache from the sanding and my legs feel like lead. Tomorrow morning sees me with the prospect of 5 X 1 mile intervals at 10km pace. Oh joy!
The weigh in found me at 78.8 kgs which was unexpected. Probably down to the fact that I was on rations down at Machrihanish and did not have any booze over the weekend.
The numbers
15 Miles - 2.00.30hrs - 8.02 pace - HR 140 bpm - cadence 83 rpm
