| The good doctor |
Terribly fatigued this morning. The 5 mile easy was a real plod and one of those unusual runs that did not improve as I went on. The good news was that there were no ill effects regarding the achilles and at no stage did I feel the usual twinges. The groin is sore though. Strangely getting down the stairs has not been a problem and I am not having to hold onto the banister until my creaking joint warm up. Went out in the old Jazz shoes and did what I had to do. Waved to the Ice Maiden - still no acknowledgement. Middle three miles were at 8 mile pace with a very easy warm up and warm down. Cycle to work was a nightmare and I could barely spin the legs as I went through Kelvingrove Park.
The weather this morning was dismal and was caught in a shower after about a couple of miles. Luckily I had decided to wear my jacket which I went back for just before the start of the run. I have been really lucky with the weather to date and hope this continues. There is nothing worse than having to go out when it's lashing with rain.
Applied ice and did some stretches at the end. After I took the ice off the achilles was quite tender but guess that the ice is a good idea at the end of each run. I am not a great one for stretching and I have heard that it is not always a good idea to stretch. The perceived wisdom is that you will do yourself damage if you just do it now and again. You either do it all he time or not at all. It is also sport specific so if you do a sport that needs flexibility then stretching is important ie swimming whereas running which relies on core stability and strong ankles then core stability is more important than flexibility.
