Time for a day off after a punishing 4 days. Last night's run has really taken it out of me. After coming back from the last 10 days where the mileage has been scaled back I felt fresh at the beginning of the week but as the miles have totted up I have become more and more tired as the week as progressed. I guess a full week's training will take its toll after the lay off that I have had. I am looking forward with interest to see how Sunday goes and how fatigued I am after say 15 miles. I feel as if I am back in the thick of it and have the familiar heavy legs and tiredness that I had before the lay off.
The achilles needs constant attention if I am to make progress with the injury. I am currently icing three times a day and doing as many stretches as I can. I have found remembering to do the strengthening exercises difficult and will need to concentrate on them in the coming week.
Coming up to half way next week in the training schedule. I was disappointed not to be able to get a run out to test my Half Marathon speed last week. Alloa Half is coming up at the start of March - Week 13 so I am working towards that. Not sure if it is realistic to expect to be able to lower the half PB which is 1.23 and change. I do not think there has been enough hard tempo runs and maybe my speed has dipped since last year. I may think about a Park Run to test the speed in the coming weeks.
Hills session tomorrow. I think I will take in the delights of Kelvingrove Park and the hills there. Maybe try avoid those horrible little angry men in battle fatigues shouting and those poor unfortunates that have signed up to GB Military Training. Busting a gut whilst someone is barking at you is just not on!
