Got out for an easy 5 miler. Went along the canal but not a soul was out. Ran out to Lock 27 and back. The achilles was stiff and had a few twinges during the run. Very apprehensive about Sundays long one. Not sure that the leg will last the full 18 miles. Concentrated on my running style and tried to relax as much as possible without worrying about the achilles. Weather was pleasant. No rain and this looks likely for tomorrow as well.
Need to order some gels and protein bars soon as I am running low. May go for caffeine rich carbo gels which can give you an additional energy boost during the marathon's tougher parts. Time has come to think about nutrition on the day. I normally go for gels only but it is a bit cumbersome running around with 8-9 gels so need to think about alternatives. I think that the choice is limited without having to go down a liquid solution. Not keen to run around with a camel back or small water bottles.
