Walked the kids to school this morning and saw Army Guy running down Great Western Road. I am sure that he is not in the army but he always wears this beaten up old camouflaged baseball hat. He is a bit dishevelled but it looked this morning as if he was doing sprints to time up and down Great Western Road at 8.15am. Crazy with all those fumes. Why doesn't he go down the Botanics and run there?
Out in the evening to do my 8X1km interval speed session. Managed to avoid the disasters of last week and only had a couple of eggs and toast for dinner. Thankfully no hairy arsed cheek moments. It was a great set tonight. Felt strong throughout the session. Decided to run a loop not far from the house. Managed to run on the road for most of the time. At 9.30pm, the roads were deserted so it was as good as running on a track. No hills to contend with either. Did not feel that I needed to push the pace on the first 5. I recall lap 6 was tough and I had to remind myself to keep my form as I started to breath deeper in the last 400m. Felt the achilles on the last two laps so eased down to avoid any damage. Rather annoyingly I had forgotten to put on the HR strap so have no figures for this
The schedule had me trying to run at 4 min pace for the 1km. The first came in at 3.46 and the subsequent laps were other than two all well under the times. The two that were not was because I could not work my watch on lap 3 and I decided to ease down on the last lap to avoid injury. Felt strong throughout and certainly not whacked afterwards although I feel that I have been through a good hard session.
Splits - 3.43 - 4.05 - 3.42 - 3.49 - 3.46 - 3.51 - 3.54 - 4.02
