Week 15 - Better frame of mind - Day 102 of 112

I had a think about my goals for the race - assuming that I manage onto the start line - and have maybe become blasé about finishing 26.2 miles. It is a massive achievement in anyone's books and to finish it is something that not many people do. So if I have to lower my expectations to merely finishing the marathon in a reasonable time way off a pb then so be it. I need to respect the distance and realise that even finishing the marathon is a fantastic achievement.

Along with this new found enlightenment comes a more positive attitude today. I have a plan of action to get me to the start line. This includes carrying out strengthening hamstring exercises every hour. I have set the timer on my watch to remind me to get the exercises done. This is quite tricky at work and involves me having sneak off and close my door  to carry these out during work. I expect some strange looks from the staff. Jen has also shown me how to use the pilates machine which has all sorts of ropes and pulleys. I am not convinced that it is a pilates machine at all!

I purchased a snazzy set of swimmers today. They are called "Zoggs". I have ditched the speedo type trunks for a more suitable pair of shorties. More befitting of a man of my advancing years.  I will have a swim tomorrow and see how they go.

My leg feels alot better today - hence my more positive attitude. I have done a raft of exercises and the leg lift with weights was not sore. This seems like good news. I hope to be able to have a run out on Saturday to see how the leg bears up. No more tempo runs for me. Nice and easy just to get the legs turning over again.
