Week 1 - Oh deery deery me - Day 7 of 112

Tried to raise myself from my slumbers at 7.15am but did not surface until after 8am. Got the trainers on and was out just before 9 having managed to down a bowl of porridge and couple of pieces of toast. This is the first time in a marathon cycle that I will try and have some nosh before setting out. Whilst not essential on a 10 miler, I am sure that I will reap the benefit on the longer Sunday jaunts in the coming weeks.

Venison Casserole
So off I went and headed toward Kirkintilloch on the Forth and Clyde. There were a few runners on the route and a train of 4 or 5 that looked as if they were going at a 7.45 clip. Decided not to follow them and keep to my assigned 8 mile pace. Kept a good pace throughout and the mile splits were close on pace being slightly quicker on the outward portion. A negative split still not possible on even a 10 miler! The smir greeted me on the return in and by about 8 miles I was drenched and feeling a bit cold without my jacket on.  My spirits were lifted by a bouncing deer by Possil . Now that's something that you don't see very often in Possil! It didn't stay around for very long once it had spotted me and darted back into the marshlands. The achilles was acting up abit but nothing too uncomfortable.

Take me out to the ball game
The last part of the run I was listening to a podcast by Steve Walker http://www.steverunner.com/ who is an American living in Cambridge near Boston. I came across this whilst training for Boston last year as he gave a course review and an insight into life in Boston. One part of this particular episode brought back memories of our vist to Boston and to a Red Soxs game whilst we were there. He was recording the podcast at a game when the crowd started up the regular singing along to Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline - nah nah nah". This coincided with the finish of my run up the hill off Great Western Road and inspired me to drop the hammer for the last 400m. A great way to finish the run and my first week on my journey to London 2012.
