Decided to give the new Sauconys a run out this afternoon. I have run in Sauconys since I decided to take this running lark a bit more seriously when I entered for New York in 2008. I like Sauconys. Having said that I have not much experience of any other shoes other than Nikes and Reeboks but that was when I was at uni and didn't know my pronators from supinators nor my stability shoe from a cushioned. Simple days! The best thing about sticking with one manufacturer is that you can buy the shoes on line and benefit from the on line savings. Being as tight as I am this is great. I buy my shoes from Sports Shoes www.sportshoes.com . They deliver on time and offer sales twice a year with 15% saving on list prices. One drawback with Sauconys is that they seem to wear down quite quickly. My current pair that have done 200 miles or so are disintegrating on the front outside sole due to my forefoot running style. Now other shoes may do the same but I have heard some good things about a company called Newton www.newtonrunning.com and although the price tag is eye watering I may give them a go on the basis that the company claim that you can get 500+ miles out of each pair.

Kelvingrove Park was the location of todays 5 mile hill session. Jogged down through the park by the River Kelvin which has been in full flow due to the rain that we have been having recently and began 4/5 hill reps finishing with a run up the hill by the uni union and home. Great session! Mixing the hard work with the easy down hill stretches was really rewarding and feel excited about my 10 miler tomorrow morning. Bring it on. Hill reps are going to be important workouts in the coming weeks. Every web site recommends these as an essential element in the schedule irrespective of whether you are racing a pancake flat London or the undulating hills of an Inverness.
Weather was milder than I expected this afternoon and had to ditch my fleece and hat half way through the run. It really is imperative that you get the gear right for each workout. Generally I will overcompensate and end up too hot. In fact I cannot remember ever having gone out on a run and felt too cold. One to remember.
The scores on the doors today were -
5 miles - 40.51 mins - 8.10 mins pace - 147 avg bpm - 174 max bpm - 82.5 cadence
