Week 2 - Say Hello and Wave Goodbye - Day 10 of 112

Let's make it clear - this is not my brother - he has less hair!
My brother posted on his running blog yesterday gideonwilliams.posterous.com how he is forever getting blanked by fellow runners when he initiates a greeting. This got me thinking as to why this is. The giving of a greeting or an acknowledgement can be one of the few enjoyable parts of a run and I cannot understand why there continues to be a blank from an  approaching runner. It does happen infrequently having said that but I have always wondered why I do not get an acknowledgement - did I say hello too late for them to acknowledge, did they hear me, are they new and don't understand the rules or are they just arseholes to big to acknowledge a weekend warrior. I certainly make it my aim to say hello to everyone that I pass and for those who do not acknowledge like the women that I see nearly every morning on the canal - well that's up to them. On reflection and in particular reference to the lady that I pass every morning, it must take an enormous amount of determination not to acknowledge than it would do to lift her hand a give a wave. Very strange.

7 mile steady run which has me running at 7.30 pace. Off to the canal this morning and surprisingly given my trials yesterday it went much better than I could have expected. In cycling home last night I felt my legs were heavy from the intervals session and was not looking forward to the 7 miler. It passed off whithout mishap and felt only minor fatigue as I tackled the hills. Kept the HR at an average of 158 with a good cadence. At one stage felt in a zone of comfort cruising at the alotted pace. This however did not last too long. Weather has been kind thus far and I only had a longsleeve shirt on this morning. What a change from last year!

The numbers
7 miles - 52.20 mins - 7.28 mile pace - 158 avg bpm - cadence 80 avg rpm
