Week 4 - CRASH! - Day 26 of 112

And he's down!
Came off the bike this morning. After last night's run I should have realised that there would be some ice on the roads especially in the park but there was no sign of trouble until it was too late. Entered the Kelvin Walk Way next to the new Hillhead Primary School manoeuvred round the tree as usual to set myself up for the straight run down the hill into the park when I noticed some shimmering ahead. That looks like......and I was down like a sack of potatoes. The front wheel slide from me and I thudded down on my shoulder. Luckily I managed to cushion my fall and because it was sheet ice there was no road rash. It was actually quite fun in a strange sort of way sliding along on the ice being followed by my bike. After I dusted myself down with no injuries, other than to my pride, I noticed that someone else had also suffered the same fate. Turns out he did the same thing as we both shared our stories. My first positive exchange of the day.

How will the 15 miler go?
As I round up the week, it has been pretty successful and I am pleased with the effort  put in. The two crucial sessions on Tuesday and Thursday went well and I think that I have nailed down a strategy for recovery to ensure that these sessions are the focus of the week. The purpose of the speed session is two fold. Firstly it allows me to get used to the higher intensity so that the marathon pace feels easy and secondly the speed sessions should increase my fitness meaning that I can work at a lesser intensity at marathon pace which will mean that I am not eating into my glycogen reserves too quickly. Less expended energy means more energy at the crucial 20 mile stage.

Off to the bank dance on Saturday so I have moved forward the 15 miler to Saturday morning. 7 mile easy with a finish of 8 miles at marathon pace. Now that will be the acid test.
