Week 7 - C'mon Alan c'mon.... Day 44 of 112

"C'mon Alan...c'mon Alan...c'mon..c'mon Alan.......awwww shite!"
Well I have indisputable evidence that I am not Alan Wells after my interval session this morning. Another tough rise at 5.55am - it doesn't get any easier. Off to the high flats at the Kelvin where there is a straightish 400m footpath for a 20x200m session with the usual 1 mile warm up and cool down. My Garmin could only do 16x200m and I decided that that would be enough given that I am just getting back to full traing following the cold/achilles. Not even the Weegies shouting encouragement from the high rises Margot style could get me to run like Alan Wells

It was still pitch black by the time that I started and it took me 3 or 4 reps to find a decent starting and finishing spot so the earlier reps were not indicative of the effort put in. I should be running these at 5km pace which is 40 seconds. I had no idea until the end what pace I was actually doing but I was pleasantly surprised that my times got quicker as the session went on. My ipod conked out about half way through so I had no distractions and could hear properly the watch bleep as I was approaching the end of a rep. The first rep was 46.46 but the last 6 were 42.90/39.83/41.47/40.44/39.96/38.95. I felt as if had had put a good shift in but was nowhere near as wrecked as I have been in the past. I think a combination of running on the tarmace than grass and being in week 7. The breathing was certainly heavier towards the end but did not feel any lactic burn.Started at low 140s and peaked at the last rep at 168avg

And what of the achilles? It was sore as soon as I stepped out of bed. I think this was down to forgetting to ice last night and doing some stretches before bed. It did ease off but not to the extent that I was not aware of it. I managed to finish the reps but think that i may have eased off the effort as I was concerned that i may do some serious damage to it.

No sign of the Ice Maiden  nor Peanut Lady who thinks it a great idea to encourage rats by throwing peanuts on the footpath whilst walking her dog. She definitely had been there because I heard the unmistakable crack as I hit the unopened shells.

Numbers - 4.98 miles - 42.09 mins - 81.4 cadence - 144 avg HR - 680 calories
