Week 8 - Back to the drawing board - Day 52 of 112

It's gone again!
Decided not to risk the achilles this morning after last nights debacle. The achilles does not feel sore and when I did the strength exercises there was no negative reaction. It does however feel ..........fluid is the best way that I can describe it. As if there is no real strength in it if I were to make a quick movement it would be painful. A bit apprehensive about trying it out tonight but will give it a go. Not sure that I will give it a full 13 tonight.

Managed out tonight but knew that the run would have to be split as I had to pick up Emma from Brownies. Started off with my usual 5 mile canal run. Feeling fine with no problem in the achilles I was easily into my stride and actually finding it hard to keep it down to 8 min pace. All was well and I thought it odd that the achilles was holding up as well as it was given the issues the night before. Finished the 5 miler and started out on the remaining 8 miles after Sam said that she would pick up Emma. Ran a 4 mile circuit along Grt Western Road, Crow Road and Dumbarton Road but only managed to get to Thornwood before the achilles flared up around 9 miles. Decided that I had better walk in so as to lessen the damage. The pain was similar to the evening before. Got the ice on and had a feed. I was starving.

I have to say that I just do not understand it. I was absolutely fine last week with a full week including the 10 miler and 18 miler. I can only put it down to the speed session and the fact that there were a couple of inclines during the session which probably put additional pressure on the muscle. Going to take a day off tomorrow and maybe have a spin on the bike and see how I am on Friday. It is very frustrating. Just when I thought that I had cracked the recovery I have another set back.

It was mild this evening. Maybe time to ditch the tights.
