Week 11 - Crocked Again! - Day 72 of 112

Ouch!
No it's not the achilles. I have developed another injury - the hamstring on the the left leg to be precise. I am flaming mad! Went out last night for the 5X2000 session at 10K pace 7.30 per 2KM after I had finished coaching the U13s. did my usual 4 laps of the cricket ground to warm up and started off on the 5 laps. The ground was soft and uneven in patches and this was my downfall I think. Running at that pace in pretty much dark conditions you need what you need to be able to see what you are running on and that just was not the case. Bloody idiot! Finished the lap in a creditable 7.34 mins and was pretty knackered. The rest of the set was going to be tough. I then went for a 400m recovery and felt that my hamstring on the left was unusually tight. I could not remember any specific point in the set where I felt something go so I hope that it is just minor strain. After the recovery I started off to see if the leg would ease off but it did not. I hurpled round one lap but it was no use. No bloody use at all! I feel that my 44 years is catching up on me.

Got home and got some ice on it and have begun trawling through the Internet for the magic pill so that I can be out running asap. I will try tomorrow to see how I pull up but am suspecting that rest is going to be the order of the day. The Alloa Half may need to be knocked on the head and sacrificeded for the greater good of London. As far as the rest of the training is concerned I have got a pretty good base so a week off running will hopefully not have too detrimental an effect. I feel the call of the rollers for the next week. I can even shorten my taper if need be.

Numbers 1 mile warm up - 7.34 min 2km - one injured athlete
