| That seems awfully small. |
Pain is easily forgotten. Sitting back trying to remember how appalling you felt on a long run as you try to get down to marathon pace is quite difficult for me. Time is like the drink in that it dulls your memory whilst taking away all the pain. I look back at my splits for Saturday and now think to myself - could I not have pushed myself to stick to the pace - was it really that tough? - was I really pushed to breaking at that time? Why did I not just zip up the man suit and crush it. It is the age old question of the Tim Noakes' Central Governor Theory- that limiter to your each and every performance. The theory goes that I did not achieve marathon pace because I did not want to not that I could not. It is nothing to do with physics it is mental. I need to get in a place in the next week or two of training before the taper where I can push the Central Governor. This will have the effect I hope of (1) improving my fitness (2) give me an understanding of what my limits are (3) give me a belief that I can push the Central Governor higher and (4) familiarise myself with the pain of the effort of pushing the CG. Should be able to do this on two runs this week starting off with a 5X2000m session on Tuesday and the Alloa Half on Sunday.
Amy started some training for the Scottish Primary Schools Champs which unfortunately take place on the Saturday before London so I will not be able to go and cheer her on. I have to take my hat off to her. She is so motivated. Yesterday after school she crammed in her homework, piano practice, clarinet practice and some training. She has go some amount of energy. She ran three times round the block non stop which is the guts of a mile then did 5x60m sprints along the pavement outside the house and this was at 8.30 at night. She is as nuts as I am.
Sat on the bike last night for my 40 minute spin. Spinning away for 40 minutes looking at the back of a door test the resolve. May be forced into reverting back to a 5 mile easy run. Back to the interval sessions on Tuesday with a 5 X 2000m after coaching my U13's cricket team.
Just got my race details for Sunday. Watch out for 239.
Numbers - 40 mins - 106 HR avg - cadence 89
