Week 11 - Time to alter goals? - Day 75 of 112

Not my thigh!
They say that if you have a plan then you should be able to alter it if things are not going your way. Reducing expectations rather than bombing out the whole race will mean that you have something to aim for if it is Goal A is not achievable. When I decided on the 3 main goals at the start of the training I had thought that if I was going to have to change the goals it would be at mile 15-16 of the marathon not maybe with 4-5 weeks to go. This I am afraid is what I may be facing unless I can make a quick recovery and get back to full training after the hamstring.

Popped into Boots on my way to work on Friday and bought a tubi grip for a small thigh. I felt that the smaller the tubi grip the more compression that it will offer to the muscle. I know that if my foot starts to turn blue and I lose feeling in my toes I have made the wrong choice. It does feel tight but not uncomfortable. The legs is still sore but not so bad when I am stretching.

I had hoped to get at least a swim in today but work has been mental in the last fortnight. By the time I was cycling up Byres Road it had already gone 6.45pm and I could not afford the time to go the the baths. I am beginning to climb the wall and feel heavy having not done any exercise for a couple of days. These withdrawal symptoms are not good. Will try a run out along the canal on Saturday morning to see how the hamstring is faring and I can make a final decision on Alloa. With no exercise at the moment will need to watch my intake of calories whilst I am on the mend.

It has been a roller coaster of a training cycle this time around. I must have been really lucky with the Boston training as I cannot recall having any issues at all. Cannot say that about this cycle starting with the achilles, the cold and now the hamstring. With a solid month I may still be able to achieve the "A Goal" which is breaking the 3 hour barrier. A "B Goal" would be to duck under 3.05 and finally a sub 3.10 as a "C Goal" would still be some achievement for an old boy like me.
