Week 12 - I'm in! - Day 82 of 112

Those laces again
There is always that sneaking doubt that you are not actually in the race until you get your registration documents. For me the London Marathon is no different. The forms arrived yesterday and were waiting for me when I got back from work. Included with the form is a glossy brochure advising you about race day and what to do in the weeks leading up to a marathon - not get injured is high up on the list! What was also included was a dinky fridge magnet which you can peel sections from to reveal your time that you run the marathon and a pair of red laces. A far cry from the early days of Virgin's sponsorship when you got a running jacket just for getting into the race. Either Branson has tightened the purse strings in these straightened times or he has given all his money to Ussain Bolt for those dreadful adverts. Laces. Bloody laces. Ridiculous. What kind of swag is that?

Did not make the swim this morning as the alarm had mysteriously moved on to Saturday and did not go off due to the weekend cancel function. Should be able to get a dip this evening after work. I may need it after the week I have had at work. The hamstring feels a bit tight this morning and the achilles is still very stiff in the morning. I have neglected the strength exercise on the achilles since I have had the hamstring problem. The achilles sorts itself out during the day. Will need to give it a proper warm up before the race just to make sure that I have no issues.

Got the swim in and trawled 32 lengths. Every swim is getting easier and the technique is returning slowly. Met USA Steve outside the baths and had a chat to him about how training was going. He was telling me how he had run 90 miles this week. Now that is going some. I think at the height of training I did not touch 70, so 90 takes some doing. He said that he was going to try for a ton and regaled me of feats at college where he regularly ran 105 miles a week. Don't think you would catch me doing that. Got on the bike for a 40 minute spin after dinner. Felt that I worked hard for 35 minutes of the session - probably 3/5. The heart rate monitor is on the blink. I think that I need a new battery.

Numbers - Swim - 32 lengths - 960 yards -
                  Bike - 40 minutes - 82 cadence - gear higher than previous
