| Ohhh the banter! |
Today felt like a lost day. Decided to get into work to finish everything off for our trip down to Machrihanish. Got in for 8am and left at 5pm. Didn't step outside. By the time I had left the day was all but over. It was a strange feeling cycling home. It was as if Saturday had been missed and it was just a one day weekend. Just as well I am off for a week
I was back out on the canal this evening as I attempted to kick start my training. I decided on a 5 mile gallop along the toe path and I am pleased to say that I managed through without any problem. I cannot tell you how relieved I am. I ran with the tubi grip and a pair of Jen's old gym shorts - I do like a ladies short! I felt that my leg was quite restricted. At the end of the run I did some stretching and have iced the calf on a couple of occasions. It will be interesting to see how the leg reacts tomorrow. I tried to run with my normal gait and tried to remain as relaxed as possible with a good high turnover. I also had to watch on the down hills to keep the stride short.
I had no intention of trying to push the pace. The whole idea was just to test the leg and get some much needed miles in them. This is the longest run that I have done for about two and a half weeks. I have been carrying a cold for most of the week. Not a hum dinger as the last one . My right nostril has been blocked all week. I put it down to the swimming but I think that it has developed into a slight cold. Nothing to dramatic but I think that it had an effect on the HR. Managed to get through in a reasonable time at an average of 143. This is a couple of beats higher than when I last tested before hamstringate. Did not feel tired at the end and the legs were fresh throughout.
Bumped into some locals on the toe path. Just where you come onto the Forth and Clyde canal at Maryhill Lock. Two women and a bloke. I think they were steaming. As I approached them the middle aged women gestured to me and apologised for stopping me during my run. Where they lost, had there been an accident, had someone stolen their Bucki? No. They wanted to know what the district was on the hill. What! Did I hear that right? That's all they wanted to know. It was when the guy that they were with slurred that he was sure it was Provanmill not Summerston that gave the game away. Where else in the Scotland could you be stopped by three pish heads discussing the whereabouts of its Glasgow's schemes. Absolutely wonderful! My response "You don't want to go up there. That's the badlands!" With that I started off home glad to have been of service. This is what I have been missing in the last fortnight - "The Glesgie Banter"
Numbers - 5 miles - 41.12mins - 8.14 pace - 143 avg HR - 83.4 cadence - 895 calories
