Week 6 - Ice ice baby - Day 39 of 112

If you are over 40 you will not know who this is.
Taking it easy today as I contemplate getting on the bike for some cross training on Friday morning. Achilles is stiff today and I am trying where possible to apply ice to lessen the inflamation. I have also become an ibroprufen junkie applying this liberally three times a day. I have to say that I am not convinced that it does much good. The ice certainly gives a quicker and better fix in reducing the inflamation.

I have had a look at marathon schedules which will have me training at a high intensity but incorporates 3 or even 4 days of rest. From recollection the physio recommended cutting down on the mileage to give the achilles as much time to recover between sessions the last time I met her. Nothing that I have read leads me to believe that this will not have changed. From what I have read as long as the intensity is maintained then the performance should not suffer. Not convinced but I may have no choice but to follow such a plan if I am to stand on the start line in April. Important now to train the body and not the ego. I have to accept that there will be a period of rest with a downturn in the fitness levels no matter how much cross training I do. When I am able to return to full training the intensity and amount of training will need to be on the basis of where my body is rather than where I should have been or want it to be.

The cold is still lingering. The constant need to blow my nose remains as I approach day 12. It is getting better and I certainly feel at the beginning of the day when I get out of bed that I do not have a cold. Throughout the day it slowly catches up and by mid morning the bin is half full.

No numbers today
