Week 6 - More drugs - Day 37 of 112

Please let them work!
I have bought myself some multi vitamins and some 10% Ibuprofen as I have decided to go on the offensive and take the fight to the cold and the achilles. This was following doing something that you should never do - seek medical advice from the internet. I remember a couple of years ago when I had a medical and was told that I had "abnormalities in by blood" I decided to look this up on the internet. According to the web I was lucky to still be alive and only had a matter of hours to live. Bollocks! It turned out I had too much good cholesterol in my system. Having said that the advice that I gleaned from the web backed up my thoughts that I need to get hydrated and get my vitamins in to recharge the system. What I also learnt and had previously not appreciated was that you should not do intensive work whilst you have a cold. I guess that figures. Looks like I will have to take a rain check on my 4x2000m tonight. My nose seems to be slowly drying up which I take as a good sign and the cough is no longer there.

Back from my jaunt this evening. Tried a 4x2000 and felt physically quite good. Breathing was not laboured nor chesty. Didn't push myself too much and had pace of 7.00/6.53/7.10/7.30 for the 4 sets with HR of 156/159/158/154. Way off what I was supposed to achieve - a 10K pace but given my health I am quite pleased with the effort . Had a warm up and a cool down and finished off in just under an hour. it will be interesting to see how I pull up tomorrow. Hoping that this is finally an end to this blasted cold.

So that was the positive. The negative is, yes you've guessed it, the achilles. Very painful on the last rep and it did not improve on my walk home. As I write I have it bandaged in ice and will add some ibroprufen later. As I was running I could feel that I was compensating with my left foot and that can only lead to injury on my left foot. I think I may need to get someone to have a look at it. I feel that it is holding me back and every run is predicated on a worry over the damn injury. That is not a good mental place to be.

The numbers - 57.18 mins - 7.17 miles - 8.00 pace - 148 HR avg - 74.5 cadence - 979 calories
