| Don't tell me what time it is! |
The day started badly. Had a call of nature in the middle of the night. Could not get back to sleep as I am sure that I could hear this low hissing every minute or so. Yes I know hearing voices again. I am going nuts. It was like water torture. The more that I tried not to hear it the more it began to play on my mind. In the end I got up and had to walk around the house in a semi conscious catatonic state trying to identify where the noise was coming from. It turned out to be the cistern. Sorted back to sleep. No. The rain started battering on the window and all I could think about was whether I would go for my run and how pissed off I would be having to run in the wind and rain again. Alarm went off at 5.55am. F%*k that! I am not going out. Turned over and went back to sleep. Not happy.
The run that I had planned was an 11 miler at steady 7.30 pace. Looking back at my training always a tough assignment after Tuesdays speed session. I knew that I would have to fit it in at the end of the day and that in all likelyhood the run would be split as I had to take Amy to hockey at GHK. This would give me an hour or so until she needed picked up. The run would be split 7 and 4. I would also have to run blind as I had left the Garmin in work.
Fired off at Anniesland along Great Western Road and at the flats turned onto the canal. Pace was good and I was surprised that the legs did not feel to heavy. Did not feel that I was working to hard but I did find it very difficult to judge the correct pace. I felt that I was erring on the positive side of 7.30 pace and was surprised that I clocked 49.55 for the 7 miles. That seemed fast given the effort that I put in. I think that the fact that I felt comfortable throughout the run was the most pleasing aspect given the time which was in the region of 7.08 pace. Turned the corner?
Bumped in to Garscube Gary who I had met at the Park Run. Also had a positive exchange with a guy on the canal who looked as if he was just starting out on getting fit. He almost jumped out of his skin as I gave him a "hello". he gave a smile though which is always good.
It was bloody cold on the 7 miler and by the end my thumb and forefinger had gone white. By the time we got back home the whiteness had spread to all four of my fingers on both hands. I thought my fingers were going to drop off. Had to stick them in the oven to warm up. Had some nosh and went back out making sure that I was not going to be affected by the cold. Two pairs of gloves, 2 hats, a neck and head buff and three layers saw to that. A bit of overcompensation I feel and by about halfway into the 4 miler I had to start shedding layers as I began to hallucinate because I was too hot. Didn't give myself enough time to digest the food and a light headiness throughout the later part of the run was a strange consequence of that. Finished off strong and clocked 29.25 for the 4 miler which was bang on time. All in all quite an odd run.
So from a bad start things improved throughout the day leaving me feeling quite up beat about training and hallucinating like Frank Zappa. All good!
