Week 12 - Farmer Giles - Day 79 of 112

Couldn't put it down!
There is never a good day that starts with a doctor's examination. Suffice to say that I also got him to have a look at the hamstring. The good news from his examination was that there is no tear and he thinks that I have strained the hamstring. He carried out various resistance tests that gave me some pain but not an acute pain. His suggestion was that what I was doing with the RICE was just what he would have ordered but did say that I may want to try a hot compress as well as cold. He said that I should continue with my Ibropufen gel rather than the pills.

Went away feeling alot better armed with the knowledge that he had imparted. Knowledge is the key to my sanity in this situation. It is the unknown that breeds doubt. At least if I have the knowledge of what is wrong then I can go about doing something to get me back on track. What I will not know and what the quacks will not be able to tell me is how long I will need to give it before I start running again. The last thing that I want is to have a relapse. On the other hand I need to be mindful that I do not miss too much training. I am on the horns of a dilemma. Start training to soon and face a DNS or resume training to late and face a possible DNF.

Got cricket with the U13's tonight and that means that it is a week since I had the accident. In that time I have run a measly 12.5 miles and swum 24 lengths. Should get back to the pool tonight and will try and put in a solid hour.

Back from the pool and managed a creditable 48 lengths at 1440 yards in around 34 minutes or so. Lapping at around 2.10 for the 120 yards. The stroke is very rough at the moment as I had been lapping at around 2.00 in the summer. A work in progress and only using this to keep the fitness up. The heart rate barely got up past 120 at the end. Tired at the end but pleased again that the breathing was under control.

Had a quick run home from Amy's ballet class and the leg held up well. The soreness on the left handside of the hamstring is no longer there. will have a spin on the rollers tomorrow.

Numbers - 48 lengths - 34 mins - HR 120
