Week 13 - Ooooh arrrrr Jim lad! - Day 86 of 112

The map
So that is two weeks since the original hamstring injury and I cannot help but think that if I had been a little bit more conservative I would probably have been back on the road by now. I think that the managing of injury is based very much on experience. For me I have never really suffered any kind of long term injury so my experience is limited as to how to manage one. My desire to get back as quickly as possible has over ridden any sensible recovery routine. Sitting here typing and worrying about whether I will make the start line is a bitter pill to swallow.

Trawling on the web has revealed that an injury between 1-5 weeks out from the marathon where recovery has taken 3 weeks will have a detrimental effect on the goal performance and the suggestion is to scale down your goal or try for an alternative marathon. That last bit is a bit depressing. As far as returning to training it suggest 50% for the first week of the return and then ramp that up to 75%. I think that may be going some I have to say.

Amy had her Primary 6 show "Treasure Island" and we had a family outing to see her thespian talents shown off. As it turned out it was difficult for her to show her true comic  potential as "Dancer 3". I feel her talents lie elsewhere. Managed to fit in a cycle on the trainer when we got back. Started at just before 10pm  for 40 minutes. The hamstring was not too tight and finished the effort strongly. I decided not to gun the session as I did not want to put too much pressure on the hamstring. I have begun some leg lifts to strengthen the muscle. I have been wearing the tubi grip now for the best part of the 2 weeks that i have not run. It is almost becoming a crutch and it may be that I will have to run the marathon in it which may be a bit uncomfortable. if it allows me to finish then it will have done a job.

Numbers - 40 mins - 121 avgHR - 80rpm
